This September, Ukrainians in Calgary can look forward to business workshops, a theatre performance, trips, and shopping with a stylist.


Workshop: "Start Your Business: Taxes and Financing"

September 18 6:00 PM - 8 PM


About the event. The Centre for Newcomers is organizing a workshop for Ukrainians on starting their own business. Organizers promise participants will find answers to essential questions on business financing and taxation in Alberta. The discussion will cover taxes that entrepreneurs need to pay and how to properly manage income and expenses.


The workshop will feature a banker and accountant with hands-on experience, sharing real case studies and practical advice for running a business effectively. The event will be conducted in Ukrainian.

Premiere of Ukrainian Theatre Artis "The Seagull Inside You"

September 18, 19, 20, and 22, 7:00 PM


About the event. Calgary’s first Ukrainian theatre invites everyone to a non-verbal therapy performance, "The Seagull Inside You," inspired by Richard Bach’s "Jonathan Livingston Seagull". As a physical theatre performance, it features no dialogue, making it perfect for English-speaking guests without the need for translation.


Through the universal language of movement and emotion, Artis actors will tell the touching story of Jonathan Livingston Seagull, who dared to be different and embarked on a journey of self-discovery, harmony, and love. The narrative inspires and provokes thought, allowing each audience member to find a piece of their own story.


Additionally, all ticket holders automatically enter a prize draw held after the performance.

Women's Business Club Meeting: "How to Successfully Start Your Own Beauty Business in Canada"

September 21, 10:00 AM -11:30 AM


About the event. This time, the Women's Business Club features an interview with beauty industry educator Kateryna Toporovska. Kateryna owns a studio in Kyiv, which has doubled in size despite the war. After arriving in Canada, she opened a licensed studio within a month and brought together local beauty professionals.


She will share insights into launching a business, from idea to implementation, and discuss the differences between running a business in Canada and Ukraine. She'll also cover the daily challenges business owners face, as well as tips on finding inspiration and building a like-minded team.

Children's Art Workshops

About the event. Every Saturday, Valeria Dubovyk, the owner of Art Calgary, holds creative lessons for children aged 5 and older. The kids get to explore various painting techniques, using acrylic and gouache, sometimes working with clay, making decorative paper canvases, and designing tote bags.

Los Iankovers Consert

September 21, 7:00 PM


About the event. Los Iankovers, an extraordinary band from Colombia founded by Ukrainian-Colombian musician Yanko Bohdan Penafort Lobunets, is coming to Calgary.


Yanko, 30, was born to a Ukrainian mother from Kyiv and a Colombian father. He dreamed of creating a band that would popularize Ukrainian music in Colombia and Latin American music in Ukraine. In 2017, he and his university friends formed Los Iankovers, and they began touring southern Colombia and Ecuador, performing Latin American songs and Ukrainian folk tunes.


Though most band members are Colombian, they are studying Ukrainian and are passionate about Ukrainian culture. Their Calgary performance will feature popular Ukrainian songs such as "Hey, Sokoly", "Oy u luzi chervona kalyna", and "Rydna maty moya", as well as Latin American hits.

Minnewanka Lake Kayak Trip

September 22, 10:00 AM


About the event. Outdoor enthusiasts from Water Spaces are organizing a day trip kayaking on the scenic Minnewanka Lake, located in Banff National Park. The trip includes kayaking, a stop at Stewart Canyon Bridge, a 1.5-hour hike, and a picnic with stunning lake views. Participants will also visit a spillway, with optional swimming and sunbathing.


The price includes equipment and instructor guidance; transportation to the start point is self-arranged. Be sure to bring comfortable shoes, lunch, snacks, and a good mood!


📍Where: Minnewanka Lake, start at the boat dock.

Shopping Workshops whith StylistKsenia Gospodinova

September 22, 10:30 AM -1:30 PM


About the event. Fashion designer and experienced stylist Ksenia Hospodynova is launching a series of Shopping Workshops. Each session is held in a small group of 4–6 women. After a coffee chat covering fashion theory, the group heads out for hands-on shopping, creating stylish outfits with the help of the stylist.


Slots are limited, so early registration is recommended.
